STORY

What is IT?

MicroShots is an interactive experience in VR. Originally thought for the Google cardboard platform, now repurposed to be used on any major VR platform (Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest, SteamVR, WMR).

Story

A nano capsule with a drone has been inoculated into a body of a captured zombie.

The hero, Cabel Nyen, is inside this submersible nanocapsule, which was inoculated to the sick person at the lab of Dr. Malm. The sick patient was submitted to his lab due to his condition; in general public terms, he was behaving as a “zombie”.

Objective of the game

The objective of the drone is to identify and clear out the infected zone of a human cell; if the drone do not complete the mission, the cell will mutate into a zombie cell.

The player will learn about the different type of antigens that can attack the human cells and how some substances are used to defend against these “invisible” enemies that produce several diseases in humans.

The drone is armed with special weapons to attack the different types of virus, bacteria and parasites that threat the human cells.

The weapons are:

  • Antibiotics
  • Gen based therapy proteins
  • Connector blockers

The attackers are:

  • Viruses
  • Bacteria
  • Worms

There are two phases of the operation: exploration and engagement (attack).

There is one Robot Suit that can be reduce to nanoscale.

Users (Players)

The user or “player” will be personifying Cabel Nyen, the main hero of the story.

This experience is suitable for any public in general, ages from 5 to 99 years old.

PVZ INFECTION

I did this sort of “origin story” in comic panels format for a game jam. I used PVZ characters to explain why humans get infected with viruses and become zombies.

PVZ – PLANTS VS ZOMBIES

Some of the character archetypes used on this game can be useful as reference for the MicroShots game. Also, the minion with the robot can be the base for the submersible vessel.

MICROSCOPIC PHOTOGRAPHY

Inspiration from microscopic photography and some illustrations about the microscopic world and cells.

The colors have a very high value, highly contrasted. ethereal or eerie undefined backgrounds and a viscous medium are predominant.

NANOBOTS – STEM BOOK

“NanoBots” is a book I found in the “STEM” section of Barnes’n Nobles. Great ideaa how to explain to kids the technology behind the nanotechnology anthropomorphizing it.

SUBMERSIBLE SHIP REFERENCES

The story an the action happens inside the human body from the perspective of a FPV (first person view). To keep the story consistent, the whole mission inside the human body happens through a some sort of submersible vessel. It will be similar to a robot suit with submarine capacities and control.

The player will be seated see in the main panel of the RoboPod. The RoboPod will be similar to a personal submarine.

Here are some one-man submarine image references:

EXHIBITION PANEL “THE ENEMY INSIDE”

The idea of MicroShots surged from a visual exhibition on a science museum in Colombia. The exhibition consisted on a large panel with three sets of 3D glasses that uses chromastereoscopy (a kind of stereoscopy).

The topic of the exhibition panel was about the microorganisms that attack the human body.

Previous prototype of MicroShots

A previous fast interactive prototype was developed as a proof of concept of the MicosShots idea, also trying to flesh out mechanics and possible look n feel. Made in flash

Image captured from the prototype concept

The prototype is in the link below. Note: this link will require “flash” plugin in order to run in the browser.
